Hi there. My name is Shannon, and I am a South Asian daughter of immigrants born and raised in the US. I consider myself a neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed, relational therapist. What that means is that I bring, explicitly and otherwise, a lens dedicated to understanding how systems of oppression impact our day to day mental health. In addition, I strive to understand how relational and other traumas may impact how we exist within this world.
One of my values regarding mental health is that I stray from the pathology and medical illness model that has encompassed our understanding of mental health in the past. I believe the pathology model detracts from our own relationship with our emotions. Our bodies and emotions react to our surroundings and experiences in perfectly normal and adaptable ways. I hope to help you facilitate a deeper connection with your emotions and how they show up in your body and mind.
